The Light of the World

“...this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life.”

John 9:3

Same time, same place, same plea, day after day.  Though some would occasionally toss a coin his way, the townsfolk had long since stopped seeing the man who had been born blind.  Just some more background noise, a minor annoyance in a busy day.

The disciples saw him but they saw him as the occasion for a philosophical question about life, about sin and its consequences.  “Lord, who gets the blame for this one?”

Jesus saw the man.  He saw him as he was and as he would be.  It wasn’t about guilt or blame but about God’s glory.  Jesus saw and he acted.  The man heard and he obeyed.  He saw the light for the first time in his life.  He told his story.  The pressure mounted but he kept telling the same story.  More importantly, he saw the Light of the world and he believed. 

God was glorified.

Prayer:  Lord, be glorified in my life – when I understand what’s happening and especially when I don’t.  I believe in you.  Amen.
