Did we not act in the same spirit and follow the same course?
2 Corinthians 12:18
Paul is writing to assure the Corinthians of his concern for them. As much as he hated to do it, he finds himself needing to defend himself and his ministry. That defense involves those he sent to the Corinthians - his co-worker Titus and another brother who is not named. What struck me about this verse is Paul's solidarity with his fellow workers in the Kingdom. He had confidence in both their motives and their actions.
What a joy it is when Christians work in unity, with the same "spirit" - the Holy Spirit - filling each one, as well as the same attitude - mindset, purpose, and focus. We also need unity in our "course" or "steps" (KJV). In other words, our conduct, methodology, as well as direction and goals need to line up if we are going to work together effectively in Christ's service.
Let's pray for, and work for, that unity within our churches and other leadership positions. Elders, deacons, Sunday School teachers, pastors, missionaries, denominational leaders, youth workers, kitchen helpers, etc. - empowered and focused - working together - what power that could unleash! How do we get there? "Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith…" (Hebrews 12 2). There are so many things that can and will divert our attention and energy if we let them. Remember to keep your eyes on Jesus - and work together for the gospel!
